Before Sunrise is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m a huge Richard Linklater fan, and think highly of Ethan Hawke.
When I first heard they were making a sequel, I was excited. So, Before Sunset opens this weekend.
Plot: Jesse, a writer from the US and Celine, a French working for an environment protection organisation, have aquainted nine years ago on the train from Budapest to Vienna and meet again when Jesse arrives in Paris for a reading of his new book. As they have only a few hours until his plane leaves, they stroll through Paris, talking about their experiences, views and whether they still love each other, although Jesse is already married with a kid.
Once again, it features Ethan Hawke (Jesse) and Julie Delpy (Celine), reprising their roles from the 1995 movie (the characters/actors also had a brief segment in Linklater’s Waking Life, released in 2001.)
Some interesting trivia: shot in 15 days, and the movie actually takes place in realtime.
I’m going to have to go see this one this weekend – it sounds like a perfect matinee date film.
