after last night’s gallery openings, jill and I went to Bordinos for some drinks and appetizers, joining a few other friends. (kathy thompson did a wonderful job on the interior at the new location – check it out !)
at 9pm, we left to find a commotion outside the restaurant. a woman (jennifer, one of the square gardeners) was sitting outside, bleeding from a head wound. turns out that it was a friend of jill, kathy and dede and they ran to help out.

what happened:
a man and a woman in a truck were driving down campbell street towards dickson. a car was right behind them (presumably friends of theirs).
- man sees jennifer and her girlfriend standing on the corner, kissing.
- man jumps out of his truck, punches jennifer in the face, knocking her down, where she slammed her head into the concrete, causing the head wound. (i’m not sure what happened to her partner, but she had some minor injuries, and her glasses were knocked off and got smashed in the street)
- man jumps back into truck and drives off.
luckily, someone got the make/model AND license plate number of the vehicle. hopefully the police will act and find these people.
several people called 911, and jennifer and her gf were looked after people passing by and the bordinos staff.
first of all, i was impressed by the number of strangers who were helping out.
but what i can’t understand is the sheer stupidity of people – what brings about hate crimes such as this ?
was this guy thinking “maybe i can impress my date if I beat up a woman in front of her” ?
this comes just a couple of weeks after Studio Seven Sixteen on Sycamore was pipe-bombed.
I just can’t fathom the intolerance and stupidity of people – words fail to explain it.
