This goes out to my boy Kendrick, who recently moved to Sante Fe.

I stumbled across this while driving to Rogers Saturday:

I had to go back to Red Palace (menu).   I craved Pho.

So, Doug & I ran over there for lunch, and both ordered P1.

Pho Dac Biet:  Noodles soup with eye round steak, well done flank, brisket, soft tendon, white tripe & meat ball.  Comes served with bean sprouts, limes, jalapeños, and basil.   yes.

The large bowl is big enough to bathe in.   Eat and drink.

Finally, Vietnamese food is available in Fayetteville.

Red Palace just opened up at 2141 N. College, in the old Hunan Manor location.

(Hours: Mon-Sat: 11am-9pm, Sunday 11am-8pm; Phone: 479.251.7292)

They have a nice selection of Chinese foods (including Pan Fried Noodles!), but I wanted Vietnamese. Since I was getting it to go, I decided to get Bun. Specifically, B2. Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio: Vermicelli noodles with char broiled sliced pork and egg roll.

It was delicious.

I grabbed some take-out from Sook and Sungs Korean Cafe (1618 N. College Avenue, 479.445.6119) yesterday. They are located in the old Acropolis building.

It was pretty tasty. I had the first item in the “box lunch” menu.

Grilled beef with rice, salad, soup, white kimchi, and an egg/nori “omelet” for $9.

I also grabbed a side of Raddish Kimchi (they were out of the Red Kimchi):

Camille & I decided to goto Mama Dean’s Soul Food Kitchen today (located on South School, next to the Seoul Korean Market).  Soul meets Seoul.

Today’s Menu:  Shrimp E’Touffee,  Jambalaya, Red Beans n’ Rice, Salad and Pinto Beans, Hotwater Cornbread.

She tried to order a Dr. Pepper.  “We don’t have Dr. Pepper.  Just sweet tea and lemonade.”   (and in Mason Jars, nevertheless)

Sweet tea it is !

We ordered the full meal.  Since I’m allergic to shrimp, Camille took my E’Touffee, and I took her Jambalaya.

It was really good.

Desert?  The Sweet Potato Pie came recommended.

The menu changes daily.  They usually have a different menu for dinner.  Open 10am-9pm.  So far, they’ve been open 7 days a week.

Mama said she’s gonna have something nice for Mother’s Day.  Turkey, Dressing, Beans, Greens, maybe Ribs, and Red Velvet Cake.  Oh yeah.

Beginning Saturday, May 19, Animal Services will be holding a rabies and microchipping clinic on the square during Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. to noon.  Animal Services will continue the clinics on the third Saturday of each month until October 20.  The June 16 clinic will be held in Walker Park at the picnic pavilion by the basketball courts.

Shelter Veterinarian Dr. Amy Kasprisin will be providing the rabies vaccination which include the rabies certification and animal tag.  The cost of the vaccination is $7.   The permanent identification microchip cost is $20 per animal and although not mandatory, will help any lost animal get back to it’s owner.  All shelters and vet clinics scan found animals for a microchip.  Animal Services will also be selling city license tags.  The city identification tag affords lost animals a free ride home instead of being impounded into the shelter.  The cost is $5 for dogs and cats that are spay/neutered and $15 for dogs and cats that are intact.  After November 1, 2007, the city license fee for intact dogs and cats will be $75.

Animal Services will have applications for low cost spay/neuter services for individuals who qualify per household income.  Information will also be available concerning the new ordinances going into effect November 1.  Many adoptable dogs will also be on the square.  For more information please call 444-3456.

We were excited when was saw that Pink Flamingo was opening a location in Fayetteville, on Joyce.  We’ve shopped at their store in Eureka Springs for years.  Finally, a place to buy Flax clothing in town!

We went there, and Jill bought a black Flax top, similar to a grey one that she recently purchased in Eureka Springs.

When we got it home, she discovered that the “V” in the front had frayed stitching.  Any pulling on it frayed it more.  So, she called the store to see if they had another one in stock.  They didn’t.  She was then told she had 7 days to bring it back in for an exchange.

Since she was on the way out of town for business for a week, I had to return the garment.

I went into the store and the owners inspected the item, and said they couldn’t see anything wrong with it.  I left, telling them that I would find out exactly what the problem was.  I talked to Jill, returned to the store, and pointed out the problem.

That’s when the owner started arguing with me – telling me that he personally inspects every piece of clothing before it leaves the store, and it wasn’t like that when it left.  (He wasn’t even at the store when we purchased it, so I never saw him inspect it.)   He said that it could fray like that if someone larger than the clothing size wore it.  I mentioned that a) she never even tried it on, and b) we have the exact same top in a different color, and it had no fraying.

He says that he could give store credit, since there is no cash refunds, and pointed to the tiny sign stating “No Cash Refunds.  Exchange Only, within 7 days with receipt.”  I inquire about that policy.

I haven’t seen ANY boutiques in the area with such a limited return policy.  He argued, saying that was standard return policy for boutiques around here.  I said that might be the case in Eureka Springs, but we haven’t shopped in boutiques with return policies like that in Fayetteville (and we’ve been supporting local businesses for decades).

I ask if we could get the credit on the credit card which we used to make the purchase.  “No.  That counts as cash.”

So, he calls his wife and practically has to get permission to give us store credit.   I ask if we can use the credit at the Eureka Springs store.  He says “No”.  They’re trying to treat them as separate businesses.  They won’t even ship stock from the Eureka Store to the Fayetteville one.

No Cash refunds?  Apparently, the customer is never right at the Pink Flamingo.  Without having a guarantee of a cash refund, it makes a business sound as if they’re not sticking around.  If Jill had noticed that policy, she would have never spent any money there.  We’d much rather support local businesses that cared about the customer.

Incidents like this makes one wary to support locally owned businesses, and makes me very wary to trust businesses in Eureka Springs.

Now we’re stuck with credit at a store where we don’t want to spent a single penny.   Hopefully that business will stay open long enough for us to actually use that credit, now that they’ve taken our money.

After work last night, I was sitting on the front patio, looking out.
