For my birthday this year, we drove down to Fort Smith to eat Vietnamese at Pho Hoang (2111 Grand Ave.).

Some highlights:

Mom and I ordered Bun:

The food was great.  I wish we had Vietnamese restaurants in NWA.

Palm Noodle Bar – Southeast Asian Food Plus
200 S Bloomington Avenue Unit B
Lowell, AR  72745
479.700.0011
10:30am – 8:30pm Mon-Sat
10:30am – 3:30pm Sunday

After hearing advertisements on the radio, we decided to check out the Palm Noodle Bar in Lowell (of all places).

They have a variety of noodle dishes, sushi, and soups.

We had:

Cambodian Jungle Curry – Spicy curry broth with rice noodles simmered with ginger, mushrooms, peppers, greens, sprouts, mango, herbs, and lime.

and

Spicy Peanut Noodle – Indonesian style peanut sauce, wok fried with peppers, asian greens, crushed peanuts, herbs, sprouts, coconut milk, and lime on ribbon noodles.

Both dishes were VERY good.  The sauces were light, not too “goopy” and thick, and had excellent flavor.

AND THEY ACTUALLY HAD BOTTLES OF FISH SAUCE ON THE TABLE !  Something that none of the asian (and especially thai) restaurants do in Fayetteville.  I <3 fish sauce.

Everything is available with chicken, pork, tofu, or shrimp.  A few items have beef as an option.

Currently, they have a grand opening special of Free fountain drink with the purchase of any meal on the menu, for the month of February.

Menu will be posted soon.

According to the back of the employee’s t-shirts, they are “home of the best damned grilled burritos” in Northwest Arkansas. And they are correct.

Lunch at Gino’s East.

The Gino’s East story began in 1966 when two taxi drivers and a friend, frustrated with rush hour traffic, decided to open a pizzeria just off Michigan Ave. and Superior St. in Chicago. The Original Gino’s East became an instant legend with local Chicagoans, national celebrities and visitors from around the world.

The original location is now closed, apparently. They opened the new location in an old Planet Hollywood restaurant.

This place was crazy. It’s encouraged to write on the walls, tables, seats, etc.

The Pizza. Single. Sausage. They put an entire sausage patty on it.

i’ve been craving sushi like something fierce, so we went to Rice Village on Dickson this evening.

I haven’t been there in a couple of months, and discovered that the majority of their menu items has increased in price approximately 20% (except for the more expensive rolls).

The Sushi and Sashimi boats are now $24.99. Both were previously $19.99.

We ordered the Sashimi boat (like usual), and the Sashimi was great, but the Rainbow roll was much smaller.

The miso soup had hardly any tofu or seaweed in it.

The portions were smaller, and the price had increased.

At first, I wasn’t too keen on Shogun moving into the Bakery Building (the space Bensons previously occupied), but maybe it’ll be a good thing.

In Springdale, driving North on 71b (Thompson), you’ll find a silver truck on the side of the road (between Sunset and the Pontiac Coffee House). Look for the twin strobe lights.

Or this sign:

Taqueria

THE BEST tacos that I’ve ever eaten. I’ve had the pork, steak, and tongue. All are delicious. The burritos are great as well.

You have two options. Eat there, or to go. Eating there consists of standing around with a paper plate on the side of the road. There were 15 people eating there last night when I stopped by.

Garnishments include fresh radish slices, and grilled onions and peppers. The salsa and the salsa verde are both delicious, and will leave you burning.

Last night, the owner said… “I hooked you up real good, my friend”, and handed me a huge cup of horchata (wonderfully delicious !).

Eat there. Tacos are $1.50, open face on corn tortillas, loaded with cilantro and onions. Burritos are a little more, but really good.

Meats include carna asada, cheek, tongue, pork, chicken, chorizo, and pork.

Open 6pm-3am, 5 days a week.
