Someone posted this site on a listserv that I’m on.
Stay in Sync with GCal and Thunderbird
It talks about an Add-On for Mozilla Thunderbird that allows you to create and use your Google Calendar inside of Thunderbird.
Rock. On.

I just discovered that Microsoft Word 2007 has the ability to publish to blogs.
That’s pretty cool.
http://skattertech.com/2007/02/word-07-supports-wordpress/ has instructions on how to set this up.
Just trying it out for the first time now.
[Man, the code is CLEAN]
This looks like a really good opensource package for DVD authoring. I found this via a tutorial on lifehacker.
DVD Flick is a simple but at the same time powerful DVD Authoring tool. It can take several video files stored on your computer and turn them into a DVD that will play back on your DVD player, Media Center or Home Cinema Set.
DVD Flick is Open Source, meaning that anyone can download and view or modify the program’s source code. It also means that it is absolutely free of charge. Several external programs are used by DVD Flick to do the dirty work like encoding and combining of video material. All of these programs are free, some are Open Source too.
Supported file container formats are, amongst others, AVI, MPG, MOV, WMV, ASF, FLV, Matroska and MP4. Supported codecs are amongst others, MPEG-124 (XVid, DivX, etc.), Windows Media AudioVideo. MP3, OGG Vorbis, H264, and On2 VP56.
visit the DVD Flick website for more information.

Early adopters of Microsoft’s new Vista operating system may notice that it will not connect to Samba share folders out of the box. This will be a bit of a pain for many enterprise customers. The technical reason is because Microsoft Vista’s default security policy is to only use NTLMv2 authentication. According to a Google search Samba doesn’t support this yet.
I just upgraded my laptop to Windows Vista Business and Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise.
I thought Vista was going to take some time to figure out, but Office. Whew. I can see how things are more intelligently organized, but I can imagine that alot of people are going to be seriously complaining about it. It took me a few minutes to figure out where the “Open” menu item was.
my desktop (click for actual size):
I just started using this between a few computers, and it works GREAT ! I have it configured to just synchronize my bookmarks, not my cookies, history, passwords, etc.
Firefox users, try it out !
Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions.
Dell.com now has a chat support feature.
Goto http://www.dell.com/chat/ and enter your Service Tag #. You enter into a live chat session with a technician, get everything worked out, and they send you a confirmation email AND a log of the chat session via email.
That’s freaking sweet. and efficient.
Update (2007/02/03): So, all of a sudden I’ve been getting comments from people who think I’m affiliated with Dell. I’m not. I’m just an end user.
from OSXFAQ – Technical News and Support for Mac OS X
by default, Mac OSX will not show hidden files (those beginning with a period) in Finder.
You can change this behavior by typing this command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUEkillall Finder
to reverse it, change TRUE to FALSE.
