unnamed professor comes in….
animated graphic i sent her in a powerpoint slide wouldn’t rotate for her.
so she comes over and we look at it…
i say…”did you put it in slideshow mode to look at it?”
OOOOPSY.
in all fairness, she never had worked with animated gifs before. Hell, if I wrote MS PowerPoint, I would’ve made the gifs shimmy, shake, wiggle, and rotate ! It’s fun !
while leaving my office yesterday, i saw two hares (aka bunny wabbits) grazing in the grass by the music building (closest to mullins). I took a few pictures, and just leaned against the fence and watched them for a few minutes. no one else was around, it was quiet, and they didn’t run away. I didn’t get too close, because i didn’t want to scare them off, and disturb them.
i was busy typing (working on some documentation)
so i picked up my water bottle with my mouth, took a drink , then set it back down…. kept on typing
especially while blasting “dont fear the reaper” through the subwoofers.
coworkers are not appreciative of me using my stainless steel coffee cup + chopsticks as drumsticks…. claiming “we NEED more cowbell”
well, it appears that unless you want to spend $500 a year to park in a parking garage, there will be no parking on the south side of campus. At least not for those of us who actually work on campus.
Construction and Parking Plans for the South of Campus
500 spaces are scheduled to open in the Harmon Parking Garage at the end of December 2004. The remaining 1649 parking spaces will open in April 2005. The latest information we have is that construction will begin on the Center for Academic Excellence shortly after August 1 of this year. The first phase will be the construction of a utility tunnel from Buchanan Street to Ozark Avenue, between Kimpel Hall and the Walton College of Business (WCOB). Terrace Manor Apartments, lot 68 at Terrace Manor, lot 51, east of Kimpel Hall, and about one-third of lot 52, east of the WCOB, will be removed at that time. Walker Hall is to be constructed on the east side of the WCOB in lot 52. When this project begins, sometime after January 2005, lot 52 will be closed.
With the loss of parking around Kimpel Hall and WCOB, we are planning to redesignate several of the Faculty/Staff parking lots in the area to Reserved. Lot 65, across Buchanan Street from WCOB, and lot 61, at the McIlroy House, will be changed to Reserved parking. As will lot 17, on Williams Street, southeast of the Physics Building. Lot 18 “U” permit holders will be displaced by the Physics expansion, beginning May 24. These permit holders will park in lot 19, south of Physics, for the remainder of the summer. The Faculty/Staff section of lot 71, west of the Dickson Street Annex (747 W. Dickson) across the street for Engineering Hall, will be redesignated for Reserved permit holders displaced due to the construction, as will part of lot 70, south and east of the Dickson Street Annex.
The lot 56 Express shuttle will resume operation during the Fall semester to transport employees and students from lot 56, south of Carlson Terrace, to the WCOB/Kimpel area. Once the Harmon Parking Garage opens, we plan to discontinue the lot 56 Express.
Reserved permit holders displaced from lots 51 and 52 will be the first people assigned to the first 500 spaces to open in the Harmon Parking Garage. If everyone who currently holds a reserved permit in these two lots chooses to park in the deck, there will still be about 300 spaces open for employees who do not currently have a reserved permit. The annual fee for parking in the Harmon Deck will be $500 and will be prorated based on the time of year the permit is purchased and credit will be given for the portion of the unused permit being traded-in. I encourage you to sign-up for the priority list for the Union Deck or the new Harmon Deck now. To sign-up for either parking deck, please go to the Transit and Parking web site and complete the Deck Permit Application. That e-mail form may be reached by clicking http://www3.uark.edu/PARK/pda.htm
The Harmon Garage will be gated. Permit holders will have an access card and be permitted to enter the deck through any of the four entrances. There will be on entrance on the west, from Harmon Road, two on the north from Williams Street and one on Duncan Avenue, from the east. Hourly parkers will take a ticket and pay at the cashier station or at one of four pay-on-foot stations. The permit holders access card or the hourly parkers paid receipt will allow them to exit the garage.
so, my supervisor and co-worker are in Indianapolis for a week at a conference.
Bossman gets voicemail on the answering machine in his office (probably came on after the power outtage saturday). The answering machine starts beeping. One beep every 20 seconds to alert him to the new voicemail. It becomes VERY annoying after the first 5 minutes. We realized that basically, we’re stuck listening to “beep” for the next week… Three times a minute, 60 minutes an hour, 8 hours a day… for the next week.
And he’s the only one who locks his office door. (Mainly because we started throwing his crap in there that he never moved out of the hallway when we moved last summer).
So, we had to climb a wall, get into his office, and unlock the door.
Answering machine is disabled !

PowerPoint: Good, Bad (and the Pretty Ugly)
Face it, we all hate PowerPoint, but it’s the only tool we have to
bridge the gap between the presenter and an audience. We’re going to
take a look at common mistakes, cliches, and techniques used to make a
good presentation look bad (or a bad presentation look good). Join
faculty, staff and students for a PowerPoint demonstration on Wednesday,
March 10th from 11:30-1:30 in the NW meeting room in the Food Court.
This presentation will demonstrate effective uses of animations, videos,
and other content in your PowerPoint slides. The primary focus will be
on general PowerPoint presentations, however, alternate techniques for
effective classroom lecture and online course delivery will be
addressed.
Bring your lunch, dessert will be provided. Everyone is welcome!
