so, i’ve been cleaning like a madmaxbeyondthethunderdome, and moved out a shelf from the kitchen to clean underneath, and to replace it actually….
and found 23 cat toys… mainly toy mice, and a few crinklies and fuzzies.

so i’ve gotten a late season case of spring fever, and am doing some major cleaning around thie hizzouz and office.
at the office, i’ve re-arranged my desk so that on the narrowed side (it forms a ‘U’ shape), I have my new laptop, and the 19″ monitor that’s attached to it (so I have 1920×1200 and 1600×1200 resolution going – dual heads). I also have room on the left side of the laptop to put another flat panel monitor, for three displays (i know a guy who has 5 monitors hooked up to his desktop machine, with the workspace just spread across all of them. beautiful).
the other side of the desk contains my old laptop. i’m not sure what i’ll do with it yet – it may become my beta machine, and I’ll play around with some new technologies, or it may get passed onto another co-worker. the problem is that I actually NEED a semi-decent computer so that I can evaluate some things without messing up my usual office machine. The 400mhz retired dell doesn’t really cut it much anymore.
at home, i’ve re-arranged the living room some, moving couches around, putting the table and chairs (previously in the kitchen), against a wall. it looks pretty good. i’m thinking about moving the 70 gallon aquarium to another part of the room, and then move the entertainment system where the tank previously was (against the east wall).
the kitchen is being reorganized. I have already cleaned the cabinets, getting rid of spices, organizing the foods into categories (american, indian, thai, chinese, etc). I moved the bookshelf containing cookbooks to the north wall, moving the refrigerator into the space formerly housing the bookshelf (east wall). Shelves have been cleaned off, consolidated, and migrated to the back room. Matching shelving from the back room is migrating into the kitchen, to house the pots, pans, microwave, tea, saki sets, bartending sets, etc.
Overall, it’s tiring…I’m cleaning as I’m going… scrubbing walls and floors in the areas that I’m working in as I get to them, but it’s going to look really nice when completed.
while playing scrabble with jill last night, she mentioned that it’s amazing all the things that we’ve forgotten, yet we could still sing along with, and remember, all the words to Berlin’s “The Metro”.
while leaving my office yesterday, i saw two hares (aka bunny wabbits) grazing in the grass by the music building (closest to mullins). I took a few pictures, and just leaned against the fence and watched them for a few minutes. no one else was around, it was quiet, and they didn’t run away. I didn’t get too close, because i didn’t want to scare them off, and disturb them.
location: my living room
date: wed. 5/19/2004
scenario: half a dozen people, drinking, having fun, cheering and screaming along to downloaded episodes of “Pee Wee’s Playhouse”.
Man. I want a Chairy Chair.
things that i found underneath the aquarium (stolen and stashed by ferrets:
nice breeze outside, was playing some guitar…. after doing some impromptu jazz stuff for awhile, i caught myself playing ’2112′, ‘A Passage to Bangkok’, and ‘Dreamline’ by Rush. I hope no one saw me or heard me. [Alex Lifeson was one of my early guitar heroes... shhhh]
Last nite, friends were over and it was storming, so of course, i started playing anything I could remember dealing with the rain, storms, and weather. “Here Comes the Sun”, “Lightnight Crashes”, “Like the Weather”, “So Central Rain”. I was stopped before i started playing some Garth Brooks.
The ferrets were bathed. They now smell of jasmine shampoo.
you would think by this point in my life, i would realize that the best way to discover if the ceiling fan is on in a dark room is to NOT “raise my hands in the air, and wave them like I just don’t care”.
Yep. Ceiling fan WAS on. Owwww.
so there was a mishap with my trusty canon s50 last night, after 7 months of use, and thousands of photos, it died. “E18″ error, the lense wouldn’t retract, and blue screen of death.
sad times.
So, I grabbed my Best Buy extended warranty and receipt, and went there today. They no longer have that model of camera (SAD PANDA FACE), but they swapped it out for a new Canon PowerShot S500 Digital ELPH, and told me that I had 14 days to decide if that’s the one I wanted or not.
So, I’m going to play with this camera and see what it can do. It’s a lot smaller than the S50, but that one took amazing photos, and let me do everything automatically.
i’m going to have to checkout this s500, and decide if i want it or not, OR what my options on other cameras in that price rance ($500) is.
so, i actually went out last night and socialized.
jill, who lives here at the armz, asked if I wanted to go to Jose’s with her and her bf Michael. Sure, why not ! So I had a sangria margarita and met a bunch of people, and then we headed over to Hoffbrau, where I discussed piercings with a cute waitress, and finally left around 9:15.
Came home for a few minutes, and then headed over to Ron’s Black Thursday a bi-monthly (no pun intended) drum-and-bass night that some friends of mine organized. (Every Friday & Saturday nights, some dj friends of mine spin house/dance music there as well. Go there.)
Played a bunch of pool, and drank “Shiner” on tap. It was NOT Shiner. Something much darker, and sweeter, and better, but we could never figure out what it was, but we kept ordering more. Other than my friends and I, there wasn’t that many people there, except for some women (some of whom were really cute). [Ron doesn't actually own the place anymore, he's been sick with lupus, and apparently the gay men have started frequenting the club on Sycamore, while alot of the lesbians are at Ron's now. I might have my story mixed up somewhat, and I'm sure there are more experts on fayetteville's gay culture than this straight white boy.] Nevertheless, I had a fun time, the next one is in 2 weeks, I think on April 22nd, where my friend
David (dj Kinetic) will be spinning some tracks.
I left there around 1am or so.
