New albums LENGTH: 639 words HEADLINE: McCartney, Jagger albums lead list of new releases BYLINE: By Chris Heim BODY: Is there rock 'n' roll life after 50? Two leading players in the '60s British Invasion, Paul McCartney (who reached the big five-oh last summer) and Mick Jagger (who hits that milestone this July), hope to prove there is with albums released this past Tuesday. Both sets are being touted as s ome of the best and truest solo work either has done in years. That isn't necessarily saying that much. In McCartney's case you have to go back almost 20 years, to Wings' "Band on the Run," for a consistent set (although, in fairness, McCartney's 1989 alb um, "Flowers in the Dirt," gave better than it got back in response), and Jagger boosters are still waiting for the Great-Lipped One to launch a solo flight that reaches the same heights as the lowest flying Stones. (Judging from his recent "Saturday Nigh t Live" appearance, though, Jagger may do a better Keith Richards than his bandmate himself does these days.) Macca's new one, "Off the Ground," is on Capitol, his label of choice for the past 30 years. "Wandering Spirit" is Jagger's first solo set on Atl antic.
