June I993 Fisheads, As you probably all know by now, February finally saw the release of "Spilt Milk", the latese magically delicious, nongrunge assemblage of tunes from Jellyfish. The girl pictured on the front cover has quite a career ahead of her if her behavior at the photo shoot is any indication. When the art director suggested that she feign sadness, the aspiring Sean Young threw a tantrum, screaming "But I'm the princess, I'm the princess!" Kids...ya gotta love 'em. To celebrate the release of the album, Jellyfish played their first show in over a year and a half (with the Buzzcocks meet-Hello-Kity power trio, Shonen Knife) during the annual music industry shmooze-fest known as the Gavin Convention in San Francisco. After the show, Virgin Records supplied Jellyfish-customized cable cars (ie:, the Rice-a-Roni advertisements were replaced with Jellyf sh stickers & poster) which transported fisheads through the streets of San Francisco to a Spilt Milk-themed record release party in North Beach, complete with ice cream and bowls of cereal as refreshments. Earlier in the convention, Andy served on the Alternative Music panel, where he struck up a friendship with Mike D. of Beastie Boys fame. The video for "Ghost at Number One", which was filmed at the same desert location as "The King is Half-Undressed", aired on MTV briefly - did everyone catch Roger riding a Gerrnan motorcycle with Andy in the sidecar? In a Spinal Tap-esque turn of events, the video had to be edited in England because of the British law which prohibits television portrayal of motorcycle-riding without a helmet. Needless to say, the British version makes absolutely no sense. The new fish faces you saw in the video are Eric Dover, an Alabama native who has taken over guitar duties for the band, and Tim Smith from Atlanta, Georgia who has been playing bass with Jellyfish for over a year now. Cornmenting on the Southern presence now so dominant in Jellyfish, Andy jokes, "maybe we should change the name to "Jellyfish Hatchet". When not concentrating on rehearsing for upcoming tours, Jellyfish also found time recently to sing on country artist Kelly Willis's album. No word on a definite release date yet. March was spent on a European press jaunt covering Germany, Holland, Sweden & England, where they played on a few TB shows (including Sweden's version of the Top 40), and showed offtheir Shanter-riffic wit in various interview. The highlight for Roger was discovering that German television is still showing the Beverly-Hills-902I0-meets-CopRock teen musical "Hull High". Upon their return, Jellyfish played at Six Flags Magic Mountain (Puppet Show & Jellyfish), their first theme park appearance. However, they did not run into that evil Devereaux with plans to create Jellyfish clones to take over the world, nor did anyone plant a bomb on the Revolution. So much for TV movies. Jellyfish played a few U S. cities in April, and then returned to Europe for a six-week tour. Roger & Tim sent word that the highlight of the tour was finding candy in Stockholm called "Dog Farts". Stockholm was also the setting for the fulming of the "New Mistake" video which will probably be on MTV some time this month Look for a Swedish version of the girl on the cover of "Spilt Milk". While in England, they were ironically scheduled to play at a motorcycle museum. Hrnmmmm. Jellyfish begins their US tour this month. Those dates are enclosed. Everpending cute fluffy things, The Jellyfish Army.
