THE PHOENIX GAZETTE April 9, 1993 Friday, Final SECTION: MARQUEE; Pg. 2 LENGTH: 1537 words HEADLINE: MARQUEE ; BEST BETS FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 9 - 15 BYLINE: By Barbara Yost, Dean Rhodes, Lynn Pyne and Ken LaFave / THE PHOENIX GAZETTE BODY: Take our critics' word for it, here are some events you don't want to miss this week. Tuesday --> Jellyfish and jam -- In 1990, critics paid more attention to Jellyfish's '60s attire -- crushed velour bell-bottoms, Dr. Seuss-sized top hats and clunky Kiss-high platform heels -- than to the band's retro-sounding rock and pop hits "The King Is Hal f Undressed," "That Is Why" and "Baby's Coming Back." Now it's 1993, and core members Andy Sturmer and Roger Manning have tired of their wardrobe being reviewed before the music. On "Spilt Milk," Jellyfish has let the songs speak for themselves and toned down the sartorial splendor. Jellyfish appears at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Roxy, 2110 E. Highland Ave. Tickets, at $10, are available at the club, 954-7838, or Ticketmaster outlets, 784-4444. -- Dean Rhodes GRAPHIC: Members of Jellyfish have toned down their wardrobe in hopes that their music will start getting attention. The rock pop group plays Tuesday at The Roxy.
