NO NEED TO CRY OVER JELLYFISH'S 'SPILT MILK' SPILT MILK JELLYFISH CHARISMA RECORDS GRADE: B+) Jellyfish has made two personnel changes since their 1990 debut album, Bellybutton, but the San Francisco-based quartet's core - Andy Sturmer (lead vocals, guitar, drums) and Roger Manning (piano, guitar, vocals) - aren't crying over spilt milk. What the y've come up with in their second release is a lavishly produced album that begs comparisons to the best of Queen, Supertramp, Squeeze and Paul McCartney, remixed through Jellyfish's '90s sensibilities. The song styles differ throughout, but what pulls th e whole CD together is an unerring sense of superb melodies, harmonies and a lush wall of instruments ranging from basic guitars, bass and drums to the occasional banjo or woodwind section flying through the mix. Symphonic but never pretentious, sweet but not cloying and crafted throughout with a sly, lyrical sense of humor. - Justin Mitchell. ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS
