Why Not Smile - R.E.M. (Oxford American Version) From: Matt Egan (mde1583@rit.edu) This is a great, mellow tune from the Oxford American Magazine "Why Not Smile." Here are the lyrics, chords and a bit of tab. I don't think that this is perfect, but it's a easonable facsimile, and I think it sounds decent. This is the first tab that I've posted, so I'd love to hear some feedback. Thanks. D D G A |--------2--------|--------2--------|--------3--------|--------0--------| |----3-----3---3--|----3-----3---3--|----3-----3---3--|----2-----2---2--| |--2---2-----2----|--2---2-----2----|--0---0-----0----|--2---2-----2----| |0----------------|0----------------|-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|0----------------| |-----------------|-----------------|3----------------|-----------------| The rest of the song pretty much follows that pattern. You should probably be able to figure it out. If not, drop a line, and I'll see what I can do. At the (*) there is some little fill. It's something like this: |2-0--- |----3- |------ |------ |------ |------ A6 : 0-0-2-2-2-2 D D G A The concrete broke your fall D D G A6 To hear you speak of it D D G A I'd have done anything D D G A6 I would do anything G A D F#m I'd feel like a cartoon brick wall G A6 * D To hear you speak of it G A D D You've been so sad, it makes me worry G A6 D D Why not smile?
