From: Ola Johansson Taken from the Swedish newspaper: "Aftonbladet" MIDDLEAGE FANCLUB ? No, they're not any teenagers. No, they haven't got a fanclub. And the new album is called Grand Prix, but do you think they drive a car...? No. Of course not. Norman Blake and his friends from Glasgow thought that it sounded wonderfully ironic. To have that title on a record they've just made. -As if would be competitive, Blake says and sinks even deeper in the armchair. Okey, let's sort this out now. One can tell you're not teenagers. That's right. We weren't even teenagers when we started the band. Is it time to change the name to Middleage Fanclub? Yes, perhaps... No, the name just gets better the older we get. When we're 40 it'll be super. Do you have a fanclub at all? No, we don't want to steal peoples money by making them buy lots of useless stuff. On the new record there's a song called Neil Jung. It's supposed to young, isn't it? it's just a crazy title, but we thought it sounded a bit like Neil Young. A musically tribute to an old hero. But the text is about something completely different. You're Scotsmen, but have you ever performed in kilts? When I played in a punkband I had a kilt once. But that's the only time. Say something about the new album Grand Prix. Anything.... Straight arrangements, not a difficult record exactly, Gerry Love says. We recorded it as live as possible, Raymond McGinley means. It's still the same types of songs, Blake says. The bands last record Thriteen got quite good press, but the band is today unsatisfied with that record: We simply could have played the songs better. The performance wasn't good. We feel that now after playing them live. Today we could record them and make a better record, Blake explains. Finally, there are lots of good bands from Glasgow, which is the biggest ? I suppose that it's Wet Wet Wet, but we're more talented (laughter). Members: Norman Blake, Raymond McGinley, Gerry Love, Brenda O'Hare(??!!) Hometown: Glasgow Scotland Favorite Scotch:Highland Park
