From: oasis@zeta.org.au (Peter Brown) Subject: Teenage fanclub 11th & 12th October, Sydney, Australia Date: 18 Oct 1995 09:43:36 -0400 The Fannies were the funnest most unpretentious bunch of guys one couldimagine and were a great alternative to the angst we so often get nowadays. They played songs from their short history and the odd cover - I remember an astonishing cover of a Yo La Tengo instrumental (can't remember the name - somebody please tell me about them??) and The Byrds' Mr Tambourine Man.(few bands would get away so successfully with that). Faves like Star Sign and Radio got the crowd jumping as did their new stuff from Grand Prix. Raymond, Gerard and the beardless and chatty Norman all played their songs. Paul Quinn the new drummer has a marvellously understated style. Everyone walked out of the venue with smiles on their faces and hey I got mugged on the way home and was still happy - those losers that stole my cash didn't see the Fannies! Teenage Fanclub make the difficult appear so damn simple. All I can say is come back - soon.
