i’ve been thinking about getting a monopod instead of a tripod…they’re easier to handle, more compact, and offer good stability.
Looking around at the two local photo shops (Colliers and Bedfords), I got an idea of what’s on the market, and found a Manfrotto Bogen catalog to browse through. On several of the models, Bedfords was $20 (or more) higher than Collier’s.
Online prices ran $5 - $10 less on average than Collier’s. One model (the Bogen 684b was $30 cheaper online than at Bedfords).
I’ve decided on the Bogen 681b Professional Monopod ($54.95 at Collier’s, $44 at tristatecamera.com) with the Bogen 3229 “Monopod Quick Release Tilt Top” ($39 at Collier’s, $27.99 at tristatecamera).
Buying it from tristate.com (with ground shipping) would cost me $88.95, while buying it locally from Collier’s would cost $91.75 with tax. I’d only save a whopping $3 or so buying it online, and have to wait around for a week or so.
I think I’ll be going to Collier’s Drug after work.
