Woman Upset with Tree Crews

It`s a battle electric companies fight every winter — tree limbs heavy with ice knocking down power lines. Sometimes, crews have to prune those trees — but some crews have started something new — a method that has upset some people living in Northwest Arkansas. They were using a product called Cambistat — it is the brand name of the chemical paclobutrazol. It blocks a process that stimulates cell elongation. The result is a plant with the same number of leaves and internodes — but much less growth.
“He had a probe that he inserted into the ground and was infusing this product into the ground….”
It was an alarming sight to Pat Schram.
Saturday she discovered contractors injecting her yard with chemicals.
It turned out the contractors were working for the electric company — and were applying something called Cambistat — a chemical that slows down the growth of tree canopys.
A-E-P says it`s better for the trees than cutting them back.
but Pat wonders if the electric company has any business treating her yard, “Particularly applying a chemical product which effects my property, the plants growing on my property.”
The electric company admits they have done a better job of notifying residents about tree maintenance in the past.
And for now — no more treating is taking place.
But Pat wonders if they ever intended to notify anyone.
“I think if i had known they were coming i would have said you may not do that.”
