Calder’s Flamingo

Federal Center Plaza, Chicago, July 12, 2006

The American sculptor Alexander Calder was commissioned to create two monuments for Chicago both of which were completed in 1974.

“Flamingo” sits on the Federal Center Plaza at Dearborn and Adams Streets. Commissioned by the U.S. General Services Administration, this 53-foot tall red-colored steel stabile is striking in color, size and shape.
