Jill recently brought me back a bottle of Curry Ketchup from Boulevard Bread Company in Little Rock.   It’s pretty good stuff.

You can find it online (like Amazon, and other places), and i found a recipe for something somewhat similar:

Ingredients

1 bn scallions, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tb grated fresh ginger
1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
1/4 ts curry powder
1/2 ts ground tumeric

How to make

Place a small amount of water in a saucepan. Add the scallions, garlic
and ginger. Cook and stir over medium heat for a few minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well. Cook for another 6 to 7 minutes to blend flavours.
Serve hot.

meeting maker to ical March 20, 2008

The use of Meeting Maker is finally coming to an end at work.  We’re moving over to a Microsoft Exchange server.

Personally, I prefer to just have all my calendars (personal, work, and studio) in one application, and on my Mac, so I worked to export the mm entries and import them into iCal.

Which turned out to be a pain in the ass.

MeetingMaker has a “export to icalendar” option, but I found that it didn’t work all the time.  It would run, and then die.  Apparently, it’s a problem with recurring meetings.

So I exported my entire Meeting Maker calendar as text, and used an automator script that I found to converted Meeting Maker to iCal.

I watched as it nicely imported years of data into iCal, including the recurring items, attendees, and notes.

I found another program that removed any duplicate entries, and ran that (had some duplicates due to Palm mishaps from years ago).

So now, everything is in iCal.

Thought I’d share these tips and scripts with everyone else.

rickrolled March 13, 2008

I went to Staples in Rogers the other day to get a new paper shredder.

As I stepped out of the car, I noticed the entrancing pop sounds of Rick Astley.

That’s right, I was rickrolled publicly and outdoors.

Beat that.

Katie Wood March 10, 2008

I’m in shock.  I grabbed The Traveler this morning, and the headline was about the death of a friend of mine, Katie Wood.

The last time that I talked to her was Thursday March 6th, around 12:30pm.  She IM’d me, asking me if I could call her phone, because she couldn’t find it.   There was no answer - it went directly to voicemail.

She said that she suspected that Zach took it, and he’d been “acting crazy”.  They had been dating for awhile, and recently broke up, but were still friends.   While we were talking, Zach wrote her back saying that he didn’t take it and had no idea where it was.

She was going to fill me in more later about what was going on, but she had to go offline so she could work on some things.   We never had a chance to talk again.

from the Traveler:

Fayetteville Police are investigating an apparent homicide that occurred Sunday morning, according to a press release from the Fayetteville Police Department. A suspect was arrested in southern Oklahoma at about 5 p.m., FPD officials said.

The victim, Katherine Wood, was found by police inside her apartment after FPD received a call about a disturbance at Colonial Arms Apartments on North Leverett Avenue.

Officers found a purse outside the apartment when they arrived. The information inside the purse led them to check an apartment where the owner of the purse was believed to reside, according to the press release.

The officers received no response and after they checked the interior of the apartment, they discovered Wood’s body. The circumstance of Wood’s death appeared suspicious, given the information supplied to the police by the caller and the purse found outside, according to the press release.

Fayetteville Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of 28-year-old Zachariah Marcyniuk and plan to charge him with first degree murder. Marcyniuk was arrested Sunday afternoon by Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Wood’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office to assist with determining the cause and manner of death. A Katherine Wood, residing at Colonial Arms Apartments, is listed in the University Directory as a student in the English department.

.flv to dvd March 7, 2008

I needed to find a way to easily put a youtube video on a DVD, and have it work in DVD players.

On my Mac….

  1. Using the unPlug extension for Firefox, I was able to download the youtube video as a .flv file.
  2. I found iSquint, which converts flv to mp4 files (free).
  3. I dropped the resulting mp4 file into Toast, and made a dvd image.
